The Department of Historyof at Shanghai Jiao Tong University was established in 2003. Since its establishment, it has been adopting three development principles, namely "laying stress on historical documents, serving national strategies, and emphasizing interdisciplinary methods", and has been focusing on Ancient Chinese History, Modern Chinese History, Historical Geography and Topic History. In recent years, the department has also started to build up strenth in  World History, Archaeology andHistory of Science and Technology.
